Canon 7x42 Binoculars

If you are planning on getting a pair of Canon 7x42 binoculars, you should shop around a bit for the best model.  Canon is a very reputable brand name and you can‘t go wrong with deciding to purchase a pair of their binoculars.  If you are new to binoculars and are trying to figure out the best pair for you to get, but don’t understand what all the specifications mean, then let me go ahead and explain a little.

With the Canon 7x42 binoculars, the first number before the “x” is 7, which means that it has a magnification of 7x.  The number after the “x” is 42 which means that it has an objective of 42mm.  Now that you know what the numbers are for, let me explain to you what  they actually mean and do for you.

Basically, when you have a magnification of lets say 7x for example, it means that with the pair of Canon 7x42 binoculars, objects will appear 7 times closer than with the naked eye. When you have an objective of 42mm, that means that the objective (front) lens is 42mm in diameter. The larger the front lens is, the more light can get into the binocular.  Keep all this information in mind when you go shopping for a pair of Canon binoculars, it will save you the headache of returning a pair that was pretty much useless to you.  Talk with the dealer and tell them what you have in mind for the use of your binoculars and they will guide you more in the right direction, but now you at least know what all those little numbers mean and that will help you greatly.
